My long distance boyfriend of 2 and a half years broke up with me in 5 minutes, over the phone, while I was at school.
I feel like I'm in a nightmare. This was the man I was going to marry. This was the man that I've known for more than half of my life. This was the man whose son loved me so much and my boyfriend couldn't have been happier that we had such a bond. I was going to move across the country for him. We picked out engagement rings. He was the first man to tell me how much he loved me. He was the one who flew out to see THIS PAST WEEKEND AND DIDN'T COMMUNICATE ANYTHING WITH ME. I had no idea that kissing him goodbye at the airport and saying I love you to each other would be the last time I'd see him. I am 32 and this is my first time experiencing true heart break. I never wanted to go through this. He adored me. He would send me flowers randomly and talk about how proud he is of me that I'm pursuing my dreams. And for him to just shut me out for 72 hours and then tell me his feelings aren't the same and that he wasn't excited to see me. I am gutted. I feel like I'm experiencing a death. I feel lost, confused, completely hopeless, and my mind starts going a thousand miles per minute. It took me 29 years to find someone who I thought was the one and now I'm afraid I'm going to be alone for another 29 years. I know I am not the first one to go through this. I know it could have been worse. Im thankful he didn't tell me this in 6 months when I was going to move 2,000 miles to be with him and leave my amazing home and friends and the state I've grown to love. I just hate that there was no warning. No true signs. I really just needed to vent. Thank you guys for reading. Edit: I am so overwhelmed with the support from all of you. I was only expecting maybe a few comments relating to the pain I'm experiencing. Thank you guys. It really means a lot to me. I've read almost all of your comments and stories. Youre all so strong and got through it and that gives me hope.
Adopted a kitten, and the day I went to pick her up, she'd stepped in a glue trap. So I oiled up her back legs and tail, let her soak for 5 minutes, and gently massaged out the glue. After a quick shampoo, she's happy and fluffy again.
TIL that Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace have horological conservators. Their job is to check the 400(WC) and 600(BP) clocks daily, wind them all once a week, and reset them for Daylight Savings Time. The clocks in the kitchen are set 5 minutes fast to ensure the food comes out on time.
To the family who came in 5 minutes before close tonight
I want to say, from the bottom of my heart and with everything I am, thank you. So fucking much. I didn't say a word to you because I was busy cashing out my last table and everything happened so fast, but you came in, looked around and quickly looked up our closing time. You realized we closed in mere minutes, and happily chose to go get wings instead. You see, I haven't had a day off in a couple weeks. My days off I had scheduled this week were destroyed by one of my part time cooks needing emergency time off. Today, just like yesterday, I was here open to close. All that, and you chose to be decent humans and let me close. Thank you, sincerely. All the best, UnculturedYam
So this story is going to be very short, as it didn’t happen to me, but to a fellow professor last year. Last year, the university I teach wasn’t particularly strict on attendance. The only thing not attending would get you was a call asking if you want to keep paying for the class if you’re not using them at all. (there are no refunds, but they could sign you out midway through so you didn’t pay extra). Aside from that, it was up to the teacher to control how they wanted attendance to affect their class. This one professor decided to be incredibly strict about it and the students hated him for it. He would physically lock the door once 5 minutes passed, and would not open it again for any reason whatsoever. If you were 5 minutes late, you lost that lesson. Some students started sitting on the hallway and talking notes while looking through the glass doors when that was an option. One day I arrived to teach my lesson and all the students are gigly and happy. It just so happened that the professor himself arrived five minutes late that day, and the students locked him out of the classroom. For an entire hour. I suspect he was too embarassed to ask for a key and in the process having to admit why he was locked out. Needless to say he never locked the doors again. Edit: I guess I should have mentioned it in my post, but I was reminded of this story after reading another post in this sub. This happened around may of 2019 and at the time it was very minor so I forgot about it until today. Edit 2: english corrections lol Edit 3: More english typos. I didn’t mention in the post that it wasn’t my first lenguage. I teach calculus in spanish, and portuguese is my mother tongue so english is a distant third lenguage. Sorry if anyone got confused by that!
Company is enforcing weekly "chat roulette", 5 minutes minimum conversation length, tips included in email "tell them 3 interesting things about yourself", and "talk about your favourite animals", I'm in my 30's, mechanical engineer, kill me
Update: I got a quantity surveyor in the finance department, we small talked about how awful the forced communication was, and interesting facts about fish I learned in the chat - he was apparently going to be a marine biologist before finance... what a life, Thank you for all of the recommendations, I'll have time next week to try some more out!
Every religious person I meet always say they don’t deny science then 5 minutes later deny science
I’ve been going into some religious servers on discord not to start any debates or bash their religion just to learn about them. So I was talking to a Muslim and that he was getting annoyed that people say religions deny science. Then I started talking about thinks like carbon dating. Eventually I got onto the topic of trans people to which he instantly denied and brought up religious reasons to deny their existence. So I told him about where science proves that trans people do in fact exist and should get help to transition. It enrages me that they deny denying science. Then they went on to talk about chromosomes and other regular transphobic stuff. This topic then brought the whole server alive and in full transphobic homophobic rage you know as loving people do. The hypocrisy just radiates from them and being stuffed into a book that was written centuries ago that makes them deny everything else. Sorry if punctuation or grammar is wrong I’m just annoyed.
DM kills my new character's wife 5 minutes into the session
So my last character died in a heroic battle (the battle of omelette). Alright, no problem with that - death is inevitable. Sooo I am making a new character, hyped for the next session. I have a concept for a high intelligence gorilla barbarian (when the gorilla was young he got affected by some weird magic and became extra intelligent). He used to work as a history teacher but got kicked from the school for raging on a lesson (those pesky cheaters!). He also has a human wife, he really loves her. My DM approves this character and seems as hyped as I am - cool! Right now, he and his wife are on the run (in our campaign the emperor started raising armies of the dead so everyone had to run for it). First session begins, other players get ambushed by some skellies. My gorilla charges out of the bushes to their aid, my wife stays in the bushes and throws rocks at the skeletons to help us out. The skeleton I am beating to death decides I am not his biggest problem and proceeds to make both of his ranged attacks at my wife. She starts dying. DM rolls death saves. 1 fail. 2 fails. 1 success. I manage to get away from them skeletons (killing the mf who shot my wife of course), and proceed to make a medicine check (with a +2 modifier). I of course fail to stop the bleeding and my DM describes in great detail how I accidentally pull out her guts with my gorilla hands and she is gone forever. He proceeds to send the Doot Doot meme. Edit: DM has never told us he was using homebrew rules for medicine checks, aka that failing the check counts as a failed death save. Welp.
